12 CHINESE ZODIAC
Welcome to 2024, and welcome aboard EZsPEDIA! Starting this year, EZsPEDIA embarks on a journey as a global webzine, sharing valuable insights and information about all things Korea.
This year marks the Year of the Blue Dragon! While traveling in Korea or other Asian countries, especially when guided by a tour guide, you may encounter numerous references to dragons. Traditionally, the dragon holds symbolic significance as an imaginary creature representing the Asian Emperor. However, the significance of the Blue Dragon differs slightly from this traditional interpretation.
12 CHINESE ZODIAC

Each year in the Chinese Zodiac is associated with its own animal. In addition, a color is designated according to the Wu Xing, or the Five Elements of the universe. Hence they are referred to as the Five Cardinal Colors. These elements cycle in order, creating 60 different variations of the colored Chinese Zodiac. For instance, if someone was born in the Year of the Black Pig, they would have to wait 60 years to encounter another newly born Black Pig in the Zodiac cycle.
5 CARDINAL COLORS

Indeed, the Wu Xing, or Five Elements of the universe, not only encompass colors but also represent elements and directions. For example, in addition to representing the color blue, the element of Wood, and the season of spring, blue also signifies the direction of East. The Blue Dragon is traditionally considered the guardian of the East. Visitors to places like the Royal Palace or the National Museum of Korea may encounter depictions of the Blue Dragon. As a special event, this year you can even find the Blue Dragon featured on New Year’s greeting cards.
Also, Some Koreans visit fortune tellers who predict visitors’ fortunes based on Saju, which is derived from the Chinese Horoscope. This system’s foundation lies in the Chinese Zodiac and the Five Elements of the universe. These predictions are often sought out on New Year’s Day for insights into the year ahead.
As a symbol of the Blue Dragon, I extend wishes for all our readers to refresh themselves amidst nature’s embrace, finding rejuvenation and serenity. May your travels in 2024 be safeguarded, akin to the protection offered by the Blue Dragon, ensuring safe and memorable journeys!
