I’m EZ, a licensed English-language tour guide based in Seoul. My journey is one of constant evolution, not a series of disconnected roles, but a single mission: to interpret the essence of a place. It began with the sensitive eye of an artist and has grown into the strategic mind of a planner and the guiding voice of an interpreter.
Why “hanryang”?
Hanryang (한량) is an old Korean word for someone who lives with leisure and an appreciation for the finer things: poetry, music, good company, and the long way round. Hanryang Lab is my way of traveling through Korean history: unhurried, curious, and always looking deeper.
01. The Artist: Sensing the Essence
- Every project begins with local archiving. I document the Genius Loci (spirit of a place) through curated exhibitions and neighborhood projects, looking for the textures, shadows, and hidden narratives that reveal Korea’s overlooked dimensions.

I evolved into a Local Walking Tour Planner, turning history and archives into immersive experiences.

How I gude
I guide small groups and build each tour around a region and a theme. I begin with fieldwork and research, draw on my own experience as a traveler abroad to see Korea the way a visitor does, and then look with an artist’s eye at how a place is composed and what it asks you to notice. The interpretation happens on site, indoors and out. I often use K-content as the doorway, because the dramas, music, and films people already love are a natural way into Korean history and culture.
The Philosophy: Beyond the Surface
In a world of fast-paced information, insight is the true luxury. My tours, writing, and blog uncover the “Why” behind the “What.” Through my eyes, Korea becomes not just a destination, but a masterpiece of history, culture, and art.
