Where is Dong Seoul Terminal?
People living in the northeast part of Seoul, it’s better to use the intercity bus at Dong Seoul Terminal. Dong Seoul bus terminal literally means the terminal located in east Seoul. The closest Metro station is Gangbyeon station, Line number 2. It’s not connected with a Metro station with a shopping mall like Express Bus Terminal. But it’s easy to find its huge building across exit Number 4.

What is different from Express bus terminal?
The Express bus terminal is focused on Express intercity buses, which reach major cities far from Seoul with only 1-2 stops along the way. In contrast, the Dong Seoul intercity bus terminal reaches smaller cities or local tourism destinations located inland, making few more stops during the journey. For example, there’s ‘Inje-gun’ county on the way to Sokcho city, a small town known for its military camp. While the Express bus terminal doesn’t have buses going there, Dong Seoul Terminal does due to demand. Therefore, Dong Seoul bus terminal offers coverage to various destinations within Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon Province, and major cities of each province.

Some express bus
It also offers 14 destinations for express buses. So it can be a bit confusing for people as the ticket booths are separated. The ticket booth for express buses is located right next to the entrance, clearly marked. If you prefer to buy your bus ticket from a teller, they will ask you to double-check if there is an earlier ticket available at the intercity ticket booth. For destinations like ‘Gangreung,’ tickets can be purchased at both booths. However, the intercity bus may take approximately 30 minutes longer than the express bus due to making more stops. Additionally, the platforms for each type of bus are different: to board an express bus, you need to go upstairs and cross the bridge to reach its platform.

Under the Renewal
Because of its long history since 1988, initially built to boost the central highway, Dong Seoul Terminal has an older appearance compared to other buildings. It was taken over from the Shinsegye company, which owned the Central City Bus Terminal for the Honam route. And it is currently undergoing renovation. Despite some notices on the empty walls, the blueprints suggest it will become another landmark overlooking the Han River. It expected to be completed by 2028.
