Cherry blossom festival
HaDong City?

HaDong is a region in Gyeongsangnam-do province, close to the Seomjin River. It is famous for the HwaGaeJangTeo Market. This market is offering various agricultural and marine products due to its regional advantages. The city is situated on the border of two provinces. It is boasting vast plains for farming near the river, with forests and the sea not far away. The open market even has its own song, sharing the same name. Anyway, HaDong city exudes a laid-back atmosphere of tranquility.
Origin of Korea Green Tea

Typically, Boseong is famous for its tea farms. HaDong is considered the birthplace of Korean green tea farm. Tea trees were initially cultivated around SsangGye-Sa buddhist temple in Korea. And these original farms are still maintained. Small tea tree farms, known as JeDa, dot the area, with some owned by green tea masters. Near the HwaGaeJangTeo Market, you can find tea houses where you can taste and purchase green tea produced by these masters. The Green Tea Expo is held annually, capitalizing on the region’s reputation for green tea production.
Cherry blossom Road

The road from HwaGaeJangTeo Market to SsangGye-sa spans approximately 4km, adorned with cherry blossom trees, earning it the nickname “BeokKkotShipLi-Gil” (4km Long Cherry Blossom Road).
It’s a driving course with a walking trail for travelers. Arriving a week early, we caught the cherry blossoms at half bloom, creating a stunning atmosphere as petals gently fell with the breeze. I couldn’t help but imagine the overwhelming beauty of driving this road. If the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, showering the surroundings with their magnificent petals.
HaDong is not convenient to approach, especially for walking travelers due to its location. It takes about half a day to get there by public transportation from Seoul. Most of the residents I met in HaDong didn’t hide their love for their hometown, sharing living tips and memories. I couldn’t forget the stars in their eyes.

Cherry blossom season is imminent, expected to bloom one week earlier than last year. Buds are starting to appear; based on live video, I anticipate they will bloom next week. Hope to see you in the midst of the cherry blossom rain!
