My little coffee shop-09

Recently, I found a unique tea house that sells oriental tea, not based on green tea, but herbal tea. It aroused my interest enough to experience it. So, I took a trip to Jegi-dong metro station, the nearest station to the tea house.

House of beautiful tea

The tea house’s name is Damiga. When translated, it means “House of Beautiful Tea.” Damiga is situated near a traditional gate, which hangs a name tablet reading “YakRyeongShi” (Market of Medicine). Because it sells ingredients of traditional medicine, many traditional pharmacies and medical clinics are located here. Damiga also is connected with a traditional medical clinic.

Chejil test app

CheJil basis.

What sets Damiga apart from others is their unique offering of a simple test to define your Chejil (body constitution) based on traditional methods through an app. Once your body constitution is defined, they serve a suitable tea tailored to your Chejil. The owner explained that herbal medicine traditionally required a long time to determine one’s body constitution, which could result in toxicity if not done properly. However, they have modified the process to remove any potential toxins while still being suitable for your Chejil. This provides a simple way for tourists to enjoy tea while improving their health. Damiga is the inventor of this type of Oriental medicine tea, and they have slowly but surely influenced tourists with their approach.

Traditional Drawers for medicine ingredient
Steamed herbal pack

The owner, sincere and dedicated, makes sugar-soaked fruit tea herself every year. While most teas consist of herbs, vegans should avoid ordering HyoSeongBoYak tea, which contains pieces of antler. If the owner has time, she offers a steamed herbal pack made from leftover oriental medicine, providing relaxation. For those who wish to delve deeper and precisely check their constitution, they can undergo a medical check-up at the oriental clinic right next door, which has a 20-year history in YakRyeongShi.
